The Afro Kuumba Dancers (T.A.K.D) is our youth and pre professional training company with a mission to empower lives through the vitality of Afrocentric dance & culture. Age 3-17

Pre-Primary

Ages 3-5

Students in the Pre-Primary Level are introduced and reminded of the basic concepts of rhythm and movement through foundations of African dances & the foundational ballet technique instruction from the nationally acclaimed American Ballet Theater (“ABT”) curriculum. Students will learn spatial awareness, listening skills, group socialization and structure through teaching tools such as imaginative language use and creative games.

Level 1

Ages 9-10

Level one students are expected to memorize, practice, and execute short choreography and phrases geared towards strengthening their performance and artistic skills as well as physical agility.

Level 3

Ages 13-14

High Level - Advance.  A continuation of Level 2 Contemporary class fuses elements of Ballet, African Dance, Modern dance & more.  Ballet Technique of The ABT Nationally acclaimed curriculum.  Dunham technique, Graham, Horton & Limon. This class builds and teaches freedom of expression, interpretation of music, principles of fall and recovery, control, breathing, and balance. dance style outside of the structure of traditional ballet and jazz classes. Students will focus on advanced technique and learn more advanced moves and choreography sequences.

Primary

Ages 6-8

The Primary Level is our beginner level for the AfroKuumba Dance Training Program. They are introduced to basic tumbling moves, African dance  and the ballet which prepare the student for more advanced work in the future. 

Level 2

Ages 11-12

Level two students begin Contemporary classes which fuse elements of Ballet, African Diasporic Dance, Modern, and various specialty and subgenres of dance. The Ballet technique components will adhere to the ABT nationally acclaimed curriculum. The primary Modern techniques emphasized are Dunham, Graham, Horton, and Limon. Level Two specifically aims to build and teach freedom of expression and music interpretation.

Level 4

Ages 15-17

High Level - Advance.  A continuation of Level 3-4 with a heavy focus on maturing content that deals with societal and age related concepts. Students will focus on advanced technique and learn more advanced moves and choreography sequences. Contemporary class fuses elements of Ballet, African Dance, Modern dance & more.  Ballet Technique of The ABT Nationally acclaimed curriculum.  Dunham technique, Graham, Horton & Limon. This class builds and teaches freedom of expression, interpretation of music, principles of fall and recovery, control, breathing, and balance. dance style outside of the structure of traditional ballet and jazz classes.
